Biography
Phillip D. Sidlow, M.S., CRC, NCC, F/ABVE, is a vocational economic analyst with Vocational Economics, LLC. He provides expert vocational economic testimony specific to earning capacity, worklife expectancy, and present value. He is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, a fellow on the American Board of Vocational Experts, a Nationally Certified Counselor, and a certified vocational expert under contract with the Social Security Administration.
Mr. Sidlow holds a Master of Science in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University. He also holds a Master of Science in Counseling with an emphasis in Career Counseling from California State University, Northridge. He completed post-graduate coursework in medical aspects of disability at California State University, Los Angeles, and independent study on the time value of money in forensic cases at the University of Nevada—Las Vegas. He holds an undergraduate degree in American Studies with a concentration in Film from Yale University.
Mr. Sidlow has experience working with clients of all ages. In injury cases, he works with clients who have a work disability and clients who do not show outward signs of a work disability. He is knowledgeable about the ways a work disability impacts worklife expectancy and earning capacity, and he is familiar with the methodology used to apply a worklife expectancy value to a specific individual who has suffered a work disabling condition. In employment matters, he provides information about earning capacity, worklife expectancy, efforts to seek comparable employment to mitigate damages, and potential tax consequences of an award. In family law cases, he provides information on employability and earning capacity taking into consideration all relevant factors, including age, gender, health, marketable skills, and labor market conditions.
Mr. Sidlow is an active member and past president of the California Career Development Association. He is an active member of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals and the National Career Development Association. He is an adjunct member of several sections of the Beverly Hills Bar Association and Los Angeles County Bar Association. He has written articles on the process of measuring earning capacity loss and on the use of vocational experts in family law cases. He speaks regularly on topics related to employability and earning capacity in a forensic setting. An active career counselor in private practice, he provides forensic services in wrongful termination, civil litigation, and family law matters. He is qualified as an expert and testified in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Orange County Superior Court, Ventura County Superior Court, San Diego County Superior Court, Alameda County Superior Court, Madera County Superior Court, Clark County Superior Court in Nevada, Santa Fe County Superior Court in New Mexico, and Montrose Superior Court in Colorado. He has testified in the United States District Court, Central District of California, Western Division. He has also testified in worker’s compensation administrative hearings in California, and before the Social Security Administration’s Office of Disability Adjudication and Review.
